Actress assault case: Dileep alleges media leaks from in-camera hearings

Kochi: Actor Dileep has filed contempt of court petitions against the investigating officer in the actress assault case, alleging that arguments held during in-camera court proceedings were leaked and that several matters not stated before the court were discussed on television channels.
The petitions were considered by the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court, which has deferred further hearing to January 12. Dileep’s counsel also pointed out that Balachandra Kumar had given interviews to television channels even before recording his statement with the police.
What are the allegations raised by Dileep?
During the hearing, Dileep’s lawyers alleged that the investigating officer leaked arguments from closed-door court proceedings. They further claimed that several details which were never stated in court were later discussed on television channels.
Another key allegation raised was that Balachandra Kumar appeared in media interviews before giving his statement to the police. According to the defence, if such a witness existed, the court should have been informed first.
What did the court hear on Thursday?
The contempt of court petitions related to the actress assault case were taken up by the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court on Thursday. It was during this hearing that Dileep’s counsel placed these allegations on record against the investigating officer.
The defence reiterated that sharing information from in-camera proceedings and discussing matters outside court amounted to contempt.
When will the court continue hearing the matter?
Several contempt petitions were placed before the court on Thursday, including those related to remarks made after the verdict in the case.
Detailed arguments on these petitions will continue on January 12. The court is expected to arrive at a decision on the issue after hearing the full arguments.
