Aadhar machine in Tirur was hacked by scamsters from black-listed regions

Kochi: As per the latest reports, fake Aadhar cards were created in Malappuram by hacking the Aadhar software, from regions blacklisted by UIDAI. The fraud was reportedly initiated from the bordering regions of West Bengal. Such incidents had happened in those regions in the past as well. In the latest attempt, a total of 38 fake Aadhar cards were created through fraudulent means.
The scamsters hacked into the Aadhar software via an Akshaya centre at Alingal in Tirur. The fake ids enrolled in the Aadhar machine at the centre were all suspended after the fraud came to light.
It should be noted that authorisations of several Aadhar operators in the regions bordering Bangladesh were scrapped after many of them were found guilty of cheating fake Aadhars for illegal migrants. Several cases were registered in these regions for creating identity cards using fake documents as well.
The Malappuram fraud was traced to the Bangladesh border using the latitudinal and longitudinal data. Every Aadhar operator will have to switch on the GPS (Global Positioning System) while operating the Aadhar machine. This helps UIDAI gather information on the location from where the details were uploaded.
In the Malappuram incident, the fingerprints and iris scans of the applicants were recorded in unregistered machines. They were later ported to the the Aadhar machine in Tirur centre to mislead the authorities.
