Govt will not delay LSG polls over voters list: A. C. Moideen

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Local Self Government, A. C. Moideen said that the ensuing Local Self Government (LSG) polls will not be delayed over the voters list. He added that the government will offer all help to the Election Commission to conduct the election in a time bound manner.

Moideen was clarifying the government’s stance after the Kerala High Court ordered not to use the 2015 voters list for the upcoming LSG polls.

“I don’t think the HC verdict is a setback to the government. The government has no intention of starting a dispute with the Election Commission and to postpone the election. The Government’s aim is to provide all the help to the EC and conduct the polls in a time bound manner,” the minister added.

Earlier, the Kerala High Court had directed not to use the 2015 voters list for the ensuing Local Self Government (LSG) polls.

The HC issued the direction after approving the United Democratic Front’s appeal challenging the Election Commission order to use the 2015 votes list for the ensuing LSG polls.

The HC found that using the 2015 voters list for the ensuing LSG polls was wrong. Nullifying the EC order, the HC directed to conduct the LSG polls using the 2019 voters list.
