124 hotspots in Kerala; strict vigil in Ponnani: Chief Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that there are 124 hotspots in Kerala at present. He also said that police are exercising strict vigil in Ponnani, which is under lockdown. He was speaking to the media after a COVID-19 review meeting here.

Northern zone IG, Ashok Yadav, is leading the police force in the area. Only five shops, including vegetable shops, are allowed to be opened in each panchayat in Ponnani. Volunteers will distribute essentials to households based on order.

16 people have been booked in Ponnani taluk for not adhering to social distancing norms. Case has been registered against a private hospital in Ponnani taluk for discharging patients without adhering to the instructions of the health department. 5,373 cases were filed against people for not wearing face masks. 15 people were booked for violating quarantine, the CM said 

People coming to the state in trains are trying to evade quarantine. Stringent action will be taken against them, the CM warned.

The role of ward level committees in COVID prevention will be increased. Those returning to their homes upon being discharged from hospitals should inform their respective ward level committees. COVID treatment will be extended to the private sector as well. District Collectors should ensure that government employees and teachers on leave are taking part in the prevention activities. As a part of this, committees will be formed in every panchayat, the CM added.
