109 trains to get new stops in Southern Railway; 13 in Kerala

Kannur: Southern Railway has approved new stops for 109 trains. Of these, only 13 train stops across seven stations in Kerala feature on the list.

The trains will begin halting at the new stops between January 26 and February 2. Most of these are halts at small stations that were discontinued during the Covid period and are yet to be fully restored. After Covid, nearly 100 stops were withdrawn based on station revenue calculations. At some stations, including Kanhangad, the same train halts in one direction but does not stop at the station on the return journey.

According to the details, several stops that were withdrawn after Covid have been reinstated, while some new stops have also been approved. These include halts for MEMU services and express trains from January 26 onwards. Specific stations mentioned include Cheriyanad, Parappanangadi, Vadakara and Tirur, with stops approved for trains such as the Madurai–Guruvayur–Madurai Express, Thiruvananthapuram–Veraval Express, Nagercoil–Gandhidham Express, Thiruvananthapuram–Bhavnagar Express, Ernakulam–Pune–Ernakulam Superfast Express, Hisar–Coimbatore–Hisar Superfast Express, and the Thrissur–Kannur Express on various dates between January 26 and February 2.

Even now, trains do not halt at more than 25 stations in Kerala in the post-Covid period. At some stations, trains are scheduled to stop only between midnight and 4 am.
