Thiruvananthapuram: CPM Central Committee member AK Balan has expressed support for the government's decision to allocate a luxurious Benz bus to chief minister and team to travel across the length and breadth of the state during the ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ programme.

“It's going to be a historic bus. If a government invites a tender for claiming the bus in future, I am sure the bus will fetch double the price of what is being spent on it now,” said AK Balan.

The veteran communist leader talked about other possibilities as well. “See, the running period of the bus will expire in 15 years. Post this, if it is kept in the museum, lakhs of people will buy tickets to just have a passing look at the grand bus with ‘historical’ significance. Who wouldn’t want to take a look at the luxury bus used by their beloved communist leaders. Now this is an opportunity we shouldn’t miss,” said AK Balan.

Earlier, CPM state secretary MV Govindan had also shared a similar opinion on the bus. Govindan believed that with Pinarayi and his group of ministers travelling in the bus, its value would shoot up to the zenith. “The bus will be a prestigious possession of Kerala,” said Govindan.

The bus which has been converted into a caravan with attached bathroom facilities and other unique features arrived in Kasaragod on Saturday morning.
