‘Fake’ POCSO case against mother: Probe launched against 3 cops

Thiruvananthapuram: A probe has been initiated against three officers of Kerala Police, including a DySP, following the acquittal of a mother who was “wrongly” accused of sexually assaulting her son in a case registered under POCSO Act in Kadakkavoor police station.

The probe was declared based on the recommendation of the state police chief citing irresponsibility, lapses on duty and carelessness from the part of the investigation team that took up the case initially. Attingal DySP SY Suresh, Kadakkavoor inspector Sivakumar and Kadakkavoor SI Vinod will face the probe. 

The case was registered in December 2020 at Kadakkavoor police station based on an alleged  fake complaint against a woman, accusing her of sexually abusing her son. Later, the Crime Branch took up the investigation and found that the case was plotted by her husband following family disputes.

The Crime Branch reported that the mother was jailed for 27 days without considering the family issues or the cases which were already existing in the court. It was also found that the investigating officers had not sought the advice of higher officials in the case.

The police officers are likely to face departmental action if found guilty of the charges raised against them.
