Waiting list tickets restricted on Indian Railways; Know more on changes in the ticket rules

Chennai: The Indian Railways has reduced the number of waiting list tickets for trains. Only 25 per cent of the total number of berths in each category will be allowed as waiting list tickets. The decision is intended to reduce congestion on platforms and in trains. This has been implemented in most railway zones this week.
Each railway zone has been imposing different norms for allowing waiting list tickets on long-distance trains till now. Usually, waiting list tickets were issued for up to 300 seats in the AC coaches and 400 in sleeper coaches. The ticket holders belonging to the waiting list board the train in the hope of finding a berth and sometimes end up in congestion and conflict. This new way is to avoid these issues.
After allocating to various quotas, 25 per cent of the total seats in each category will be given as waiting list tickets in that category. This is based on the calculation that on average 20-25 percent of waiting list tickets are confirmed in each category. If you try to take a ticket after the specified limit, it will be shown as 'regret'. They will have to rely on immediate reservation or a general coach. This regulation will not apply to special concessional quotas for differently-abled persons, military personnel and others.
