Vistara takes flight with Air India: Discover the new 'AI 2' code and what it means for you

New Delhi: Air India announced on Friday that, following the merger with Vistara, Vistara aircraft will be operated under the Air India brand and assigned a special four-digit code starting with ‘2.’ For example, flight UK 955 will change to AI 2955, making it easier for customers to identify flights when booking on Air India's website after November 12.
The routes and schedules for Vistara flights will remain the same, along with the Vistara in-flight experience, which includes the same menu, cutlery, and crew. Members of Vistara’s loyalty program, Club Vistara, will automatically transition to Air India’s Flying Returns program, which will be rebranded as the 'Maharaja Club.' The merger of Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, with Air India will take place on November 12, 2024.
In addition, Air India is upgrading its narrowbody fleet by introducing new aircraft and refurbishing older ones with new interiors. Vistara's catering services will also be extended to Air India flights. Air India's widebody fleet has expanded with the addition of six A350 aircraft, which are already operating on routes between Delhi and London and will soon fly to New York.
The airline has begun a retrofit program, starting with the first A320neo aircraft in early September. A total of 27 older narrowbody aircraft will be refurbished, with completion expected by mid-2025. Air India highlighted that this merger creates a unified airline offering greater connectivity, allowing passengers access to over 90 domestic and international destinations and more than 800 additional destinations through codeshare and interline partnerships.
