Visakhapatnam: India’s longest glass skywalk bridge was thrown open to the public on Monday, December 1, adding a spectacular new attraction to the coastal city. Built by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) at an estimated cost of ₹7 crore, the engineering marvel was inaugurated by Visakhapatnam MP M. Bharat.

Perched atop the scenic Kailasagiri Hill at nearly 1,000 feet above sea level, the skywalk stretches around 55 metres and has been constructed as a cantilevered structure, dramatically jutting out from the cliff without visible support. The design creates the illusion of a bridge floating mid-air, offering visitors an exhilarating experience.

The structure provides panoramic views of the Eastern Ghats and the valley below, making it one of the most visually striking viewpoints in Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, the transparent flooring—expected to be the main draw for tourists and adventure enthusiasts—is made from high-quality, triple-layered 40-mm tempered laminated glass imported from Germany. The heavy-duty glass panels are supported by 40 tonnes of reinforced steel, ensuring high safety standards.

To regulate crowds and ensure visitor safety, authorities have capped the maximum capacity at 100 people at a time, though the Deccan Chronicle reports that only 40 visitors per batch will initially be permitted. Each visitor will be allowed to spend 10–15 minutes on the skywalk.

With the upcoming holiday season and increased tourist influx, officials anticipate a heavy footfall in the days ahead. The new skywalk is expected to become one of Visakhapatnam’s most popular attractions.
