Vijay to meet Karur stampede victims’ families in Chennai on October 27: Reports

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-politician Vijay is reportedly preparing to meet the families of those who lost their lives in the Karur stampede. The meeting is expected to take place in Chennai on October 27, as reported by a leading media publication on Saturday.
According to a report by News18, Vijay plans to spend five to six hours with the bereaved families to offer his condolences and discuss their concerns in a more controlled environment.
The TVK leadership is said to be in the final stages of securing a suitable venue in Chennai for the meeting.
The tragic incident in Karur, which occurred on September 27 during a TVK event, claimed the lives of 41 people. Efforts to arrange a meeting in Karur reportedly faced challenges, with party sources describing the process of finding a proper venue as extremely difficult.
The available location proposed by the local police was deemed unsafe due to its inadequate infrastructure and open layout, making crowd management a serious concern.
Except for one family, all others have reportedly agreed to travel to Chennai for the meeting. The party has faced criticism for the delay in arranging Vijay’s visit to Karur.
However, TVK maintained that each time a venue was confirmed, the arrangements were cancelled shortly before the scheduled visit, forcing them to consider alternative locations.
Earlier, on September 18, TVK transferred ₹20 lakh to each of the affected families as part of its welfare assistance.
Vijay said, "We had already announced on September 28, 2025, an amount of Rs 20 lakh has been transferred through RTGS on behalf of TVK on October 18, 2025, as a family welfare fund. I kindly request you to accept it as a gesture of our support and compassion."
On October 15, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that a total compensation of Rs 4.87 crore has been issued to the families of victims in the stampede during TVK chief Vijay's rally in Karur.
