Uttarkashi: At least four people have died and more than 50 are reported missing following a devastating cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday. The sudden downpour triggered flash floods and a massive mudslide in the Dharali village area near Kheer Gad, unleashing a torrent of water, rocks, and debris through the narrow Himalayan terrain.

Among the missing are 8 to 10 Indian Army personnel who went unaccounted for after the disaster struck near their camp in the lower Harsil area, officials confirmed. Despite suffering losses, the Army remains actively engaged in search, rescue, and relief operations across the flood-ravaged region.

The sudden surge of floodwater tore through homes and roads, washing away entire sections of the settlement and leaving a path of destruction. Several homes were completely buried under layers of mud and debris.

District Magistrate Prashant Arya stated that rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate those still missing. The death toll is expected to rise as more debris is cleared and search operations intensify.

Viral footage circulating online shows the dramatic and terrifying moments as the floodwaters and mud cascaded down the hillside, forcing villagers to flee for their lives. Emergency services have been deployed to assist those affected and provide relief in the aftermath of the disaster.
