Twisha Sharma second autopsy: ‘Report compilation to take time’, says AIIMS Delhi forensic chief

New Delhi: Following the second autopsy of Twisha Sharma, senior forensic expert Dr Sudhir Gupta of All India Institute of Medical Sciences said the final report would take additional time as further laboratory examinations are required.
Dr Gupta, who heads the forensic department at AIIMS Delhi, said tests including histopathology and viscera analysis would need to be completed before the final findings could be submitted.
“Twisha’s autopsy report will take time since some laboratory tests are needed, including histopathology and viscera tests,” he said.
According to Dr Gupta, the AIIMS Delhi team is expected to return to the national capital from Bhopal on Monday, carrying samples, photographs, videos and written observations collected during the second post-mortem.
Twisha, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025. After her death on 12 May, her family alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment and dowry-related abuse by her husband and his family, leading to public outrage and demands for a transparent investigation.
Her final rites were performed in Bhopal on Sunday by her brother, Major Harshit Sharma.

Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, said the AIIMS medical team had listened carefully to the family’s concerns and assured them that the second autopsy would be conducted fairly and without bias.
“The team listened to our grievances and assured us that the post-mortem would be conducted in a non-biased manner. We are hopeful that the findings will address the concerns that remained after the first autopsy,” he said.
Major Harshit Sharma also expressed confidence in the ongoing process, saying the family was encouraged by the transparency shown by the medical team.
A relative of the family alleged there had been several shortcomings in the first post-mortem examination and said the second autopsy was expected to provide greater clarity.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India has taken suo motu cognisance of the case and registered proceedings under the title In Re Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Woman at Matrimonial Home. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant is expected to hear the matter on Monday.

The Madhya Pradesh government has also recommended a CBI investigation into the case, while Twisha’s family continues to seek an impartial probe into her death.
