Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) process for 2025 is now in its final stage, with tentative seat allotments for the third and last round of counselling scheduled to be released on Sunday. According to officials from the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), which manages the admissions, choice filling for general category students in this last round closed at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

According to IANS, a senior DOTE official stated, “In the third round, students with cut-off marks ranging from 143 to 77.5 took part in the counselling.” The tentative seat allotment list will be made available on Sunday, and students who receive allotments must confirm their acceptance by August 11.

For those confirming their seats, provisional allotment orders will be issued on August 12. On the same day, students can also submit choices for "upward movement," allowing them to move to a higher-preference course or institution if seats become available. After reviewing all data from the three rounds and various categories, the DOTE will release the final provisional allotment for the 2025 academic year on August 20.

This third round of counselling also includes general category government school students who benefit from a 7.5 per cent horizontal reservation. Officials confirmed that the tentative and provisional allotment schedule for these students will align with that of the general category.

The entire TNEA process this year has been conducted online, with students selecting their preferred colleges and courses through the official portal. The three-round counselling system is designed to ensure transparency and maximise opportunities for candidates across categories, while the upward movement option offers an additional chance for candidates to secure a more preferred seat.

Admissions under TNEA are based on Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with normalisation applied for candidates from different education boards. The admissions cover engineering and technology courses offered by the government, government-aided, and self-financing colleges across Tamil Nadu.

With the release of tentative seat allotments on Sunday, the wait for thousands of aspiring engineers draws to a close. The upcoming week will be crucial, determining their college placements and shaping the next major phase of their academic journey.
