Who is The Great Khali?

The Great Khali is the professional wrestling name of Dalip Singh Rana, an Indian wrestler and former WWE performer.

Born in Himachal Pradesh, Khali became internationally famous because of his enormous stature and distinctive wrestling persona. Standing around 7 feet 1 inch tall, he became one of the most recognisable Indian faces in global professional wrestling.

Before entering professional wrestling, Rana worked in security and trained as a wrestler and powerlifter. His size and strength eventually helped him enter the international wrestling circuit.

Why is The Great Khali famous?

Khali became a major international wrestling star after joining WWE in 2006.

His arrival was presented as a major attraction because of his exceptional height and physical presence. He quickly became involved in high-profile storylines with some of WWE's biggest stars.

He competed against and alongside major names including The Undertaker, John Cena, Batista and Shawn Michaels, among others.

His most significant WWE achievement came in 2007, when he won the World Heavyweight Championship. He became the first Indian-born wrestler to win a world championship in WWE.

The achievement made him particularly significant in the history of Indian professional wrestling and helped increase interest in WWE among Indian audiences.

His WWE career and Hall of Fame recognition

Khali remained associated with WWE for several years and became one of the company's best-known international performers.

Although his WWE run included periods away from the ring and changes in his role, his enormous popularity in India continued.

In 2021, Khali was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, recognising his contribution to professional wrestling and his status as an internationally recognised WWE performer.

What happened after wrestling?

Khali stepped away from regular active WWE competition in 2014.

After his wrestling career, he remained involved in developing wrestling talent in India. He established the Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE) promotion and training academy, providing opportunities for aspiring Indian wrestlers.

Through his training work and public profile, Khali has continued to promote professional wrestling among young athletes in India.

What the accident footage showed

Videos from the accident scene showed visible damage to the front of a white car involved in the collision.

Khali was seen walking away from the scene before getting into a black Scorpio. The footage did not show him suffering any visible injury.

He later directly addressed the incident to prevent further speculation over his condition.

Khali's own statement indicates that he escaped the accident without serious injury. His reassurance came after the accident footage generated concern online. He said he was "all well" and thanked those who had contacted him.

The incident has therefore ended as an accident scare for the wrestling star, with no serious injury reported in the information available.
