‘People have no civic sense…’: Teacher suspended after viral video abusing Bihar sparks outrage

Patna: A Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher in Bihar’s Jehanabad district was suspended on Wednesday after her controversial remarks against the state went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
Deepali, the teacher in question, expressed frustration over her posting in Jehanabad, stating in a viral video that she would accept any location in India except Bihar. She said she preferred West Bengal, South Indian states, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, or Ladakh over Bihar.
In another clip, she made derogatory comments about the state and its people, claiming Bihar was the reason India remained a developing country. She said, “Bihar is not just ‘hyped up’, and people have no civic sense in the state. The day we remove Bihar from India, it will be developed.”
Following the public uproar, the Jehanabad district administration took swift action. The Deputy Commissioner of the Central School Organisation, Patna, invoked Section 10 of the 1965 Central Civil Services Act to suspend her with immediate effect.
The order stated that the primary teacher has been suspended till further orders as per the provision of Rule 10 Sub Rule 1(a) of Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965.
As part of her suspension, Deepali has been directed to report to the Central School headquarters in Masrakh, Saran district, and is prohibited from leaving without the school principal’s permission.
Political backlash
The controversy has triggered a political storm, with leaders demanding harsher punishment.
Samastipur MP Shambhavi Choudhary wrote to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Commissioner, urging strict action. She later posted on X, confirming the teacher’s suspension and thanking the administration for its prompt response. She called the teacher’s remarks “condemnable.”
Former MLA Rahul Sharma has taken a stronger stance, writing to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to demand Deepali’s permanent removal. “Such individuals spread distortions in society, negatively impacting our children’s future. Strict action should be taken to ensure they do not remain in teaching roles,” Sharma said.
As outrage grows across Bihar, pressure is mounting on the administration and Kendriya Vidyalaya officials to go beyond suspension and consider termination.
