Taj Mahal to get advanced anti-drone system for enhanced security

Agra: Security at the iconic Taj Mahal is set to become more advanced with the installation of an anti-drone system aimed at countering potential aerial threats, a senior official confirmed on Sunday.
The monument, currently guarded by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Uttar Pradesh Police, will soon benefit from an additional layer of protection through advanced drone neutralisation technology.
This development follows India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on 7 May, targeting nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. In response, Pakistan launched artillery shelling, missile attacks, and drone strikes, all of which were successfully neutralised by Indian armed forces. The incident highlighted the increasing necessity for anti-drone defences at sensitive sites.
System specifications and operation
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Taj Security) Syed Arib Ahmad stated, “An anti-drone system will be installed at the Taj Mahal complex. The system will have a range of 7–8 kilometres but will be primarily effective within a 200-metre radius of the main dome of the monument.”
He added, “The system will automatically jam the signal of any drone entering the area, rendering it inoperable through what is known as a ‘soft kill’.”
Training and response preparedness
Ahmad further noted that police personnel are undergoing training to operate the system, and a dedicated response team is being established.
“The team will trace the origin point of the drone and secure the area where it is brought down,” he said. The installation is expected to be completed within the next few days.
Monument of national importance
The Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most visited monuments in India and a symbol of national pride, making its security a matter of the utmost importance.
