Suriya urges fans not to smoke, despite on-screen smoking in 'Retro'

Chennai: Actor Suriya, set to feature in the upcoming action-packed film Retro, has sent a strong message to his fans, urging them not to smoke. Though the actor will be seen smoking in certain scenes for the film, he clarified that it was solely for the role and not to be emulated in real life.

"Please don't smoke in your life"

Speaking at the pre-release event of Retro in Trivandrum, held at Lulu Mall, Suriya addressed the audience, saying, "Just one caution. I have smoked cigarettes for the sake of the film. Please don't smoke cigarettes in your life." He went on to emphasise the addictive nature of smoking, saying, "If you start smoking, you will not be able to stop. You will start by saying, 'Just one puff or just one cigarette.' But once you start, you will not be able to stop. I will definitely not endorse that and don't do that."

A unique collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj

Suriya also highlighted the distinctiveness of the film, stating that Retro would offer something different from his previous 45 projects. "This is a Karthik Subbaraj film, and this will be different from the 45 films you have seen before. I really wish that I can have many more associations with Karthik in my life," he added.

Film details and star cast

Retro, which will be released on May 1, has a runtime of two hours, 48 minutes, and 30 seconds. The film stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde, alongside Malayalam actors Joju George and Jayaram, and Tamil actor Karunakaran. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film features music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali. The high-octane action sequences have been choreographed by Kecha Khamphakdee. Suriya also underwent special martial arts training in Thailand for his role.
