SpiceJet expands fleet with 8 new Boeing 737s to meet festive and winter travel rush

SpiceJet has added eight Boeing 737 aircraft to its fleet, strengthening its capacity ahead of the busy festive and winter travel season. With this move, the airline’s total planned inductions for the upcoming winter schedule rise to 18 aircraft, giving passengers more flight options during peak travel months.

The newly leased aircraft will help SpiceJet add more flights on popular routes, increase frequencies on busy sectors, and reduce the chances of last-minute seat shortages. The airline said the expansion is aimed at ensuring passengers can enjoy smoother, more reliable connectivity across its domestic network when demand is at its highest.

“We are delighted to announce the addition of eight more Boeing 737 aircraft to our fleet, taking our total planned inductions to 18 aircraft for the winter schedule 2025. These additions reaffirm our commitment to expanding capacity, ensuring seamless connectivity, and offering a superior flying experience to our passengers,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet.

For travelers, this means better connectivity during festivals like Diwali and Christmas, more flexibility in flight timings, and a stronger assurance of on-time schedules during the busy winter season. The expansion is expected to particularly benefit passengers flying on high-demand routes such as Delhi–Mumbai, Bengaluru–Delhi, and Kolkata–Delhi, where demand traditionally surges in the last quarter of the year.

Earlier this month, SpiceJet had also signed lease agreements for 10 additional Boeing 737s, which are expected to join operations from October 2025. Together, these new aircraft mark one of the airline’s most significant capacity boosts in recent years.

The announcement also comes against the backdrop of improved financial stability for the airline. Just last week, SpiceJet confirmed it had fully repaid $24 million to UBS-owned Credit Suisse, closing a long-standing financial dispute that began in 2015. Industry analysts believe this repayment strengthens SpiceJet’s credibility with lessors and financial partners, supporting its fleet expansion strategy.

With passenger demand steadily rising, especially during the holiday season, SpiceJet’s latest move is expected to give travellers greater confidence in flight availability, competitive fares, and smoother travel experiences.
