Son kills father over tempo seat dispute: 26-year-old arrested in Timarpur shooting

New Delhi: A shocking incident unfolded in North Delhi's Timarpur area on Thursday evening, where a 26-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his father following a dispute over who would occupy the front seat of a hired tempo. The family was reportedly preparing to move to their native village in Uttarakhand.

The accused, identified as Deepak, was arrested at the scene. The firearm used in the crime, along with 11 live cartridges, was recovered by authorities.

The tragic event occurred around 7:30 PM near MS Block, Timarpur. Patrolling police staff, hearing a gunshot, immediately rushed to the location. PTI reports that the patrolling staff discovered a man lying in a pool of blood on the pavement while locals were wrestling with the accused to snatch the gun from him.

The victim, identified as 60-year-old Surendra Singh, a retired Sub-Inspector from the CISF, was quickly transported to HRH Hospital. Sadly, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The fatal shot had struck his left cheek, causing multiple pellet injuries to his face.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the family was making arrangements to relocate to their native home in Uttarakhand, following Surendra Singh's retirement from the CISF six months prior. As their belongings were being loaded into the tempo, an argument erupted between Surendra and Deepak regarding seating arrangements.

Surendra insisted on taking the front seat, which reportedly agitated Deepak, who then allegedly retrieved his father's licensed gun and shot him.

A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
