Shocking twist in Pune rape case: Police say entry wasn’t forced, selfie threat edited by victim herself

Pune: In a stunning turn of events just hours after detaining a suspect in the sensational Pune techie rape case, city police on Friday revealed that initial investigation suggests no forced entry, and the chilling selfie that surfaced was allegedly edited by the complainant herself.
“We have identified the man. The probe has revealed he was not a delivery executive but someone known to the woman for the past year. The entry wasn’t forceful, no substance was sprayed, and the selfie was clicked with consent. The threatening message was edited by the woman after the man left,” said Amitesh Kumar, Pune Police Commissioner.
While the suspect is currently detained and being questioned, police said further details about his identity and connection with the complainant are under verification.
Earlier, the woman had told police that on Wednesday evening around 7.30 pm, the suspect, posing as a courier delivery agent, forced his way into her flat, rendered her unconscious with a spray, raped her, and then took a selfie on her phone leaving behind a threat message. According to her statement, she regained consciousness around 8.30 pm, contacted a local guardian, and went to the police station to file a complaint.
Police, however, now say evidence points to a different sequence: the man had been an acquaintance, there was no break-in, and the selfie—far from being an act of intimidation—was taken voluntarily, with the alleged threat text added later by the woman.
“The rape allegation by the complainant is still being investigated,” Commissioner Kumar added, making it clear that the probe is far from over, but the sensational claims made initially have already begun to unravel.
