Baramulla Police has refuted social media rumours suggesting that Shameema Akhtar, the mother of martyr Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh, is being deported to Pakistan. The clarification comes amid heightened concerns following the recent Pahalgam attack.

Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra after he died in May 2022 while valiantly confronting terrorists.

Issuing a statement, Baramulla Police said, “Reports circulating on social media regarding the alleged repatriation of mother of martyr Constable Mudasir Ahmad @ Bindaas are false, baseless, and categorically denied”.

The police added, “J&K Police acknowledges the legacy of martyr Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh, who laid down his life in the line of duty and was posthumously honoured with the Shaurya Chakra. His sacrifice is a matter of immense pride for Jammu and Kashmir Police and the entire nation”.

The statement urged restraint from media and public platforms while reporting such issues. “J&K Police urges the public and media to refrain from spreading misinformation. All media platforms, news agencies, and social media users are advised to exercise utmost responsibility while sharing any information on public platform. In all cases involving action by public offices, official statement of the office concerned must be obtained so that only verified information is published”.

Shameema’s brother-in-law, Mohammad Younus, clarified, "Martyr Mudasir's mother has returned home as she was not taken for deportation. We are thankful to the Government of India."

Younus further argued that Akhtar, being from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), should not have been treated as a foreign national.

"My sister-in-law is from PoK, which is our territory. Only Pakistanis should have been deported," he stated.
