5 killed, 30 injured in bus-truck collision in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa

Rewa, Madhya Pradesh: Five people were killed and 30 others injured after a bus collided with a truck on National Highway 39 in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on Wednesday, police said.

The accident occurred around 4.30 pm near Badwar, under the jurisdiction of Gudh police station, around 30 km from the Rewa district headquarters.

The collision triggered panic at the spot, with local residents rushing to help the victims and alerting the police. Police and district administration teams soon reached the site and began rescue operations, while several ambulances were deployed to take the injured to hospital.

Additional Superintendent of Police Bhavana Maravi told PTI Videos, "Five people died in the accident, while 30 others were injured."

All the injured were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa for treatment, she said.

Maravi said rescue teams were continuing their search at the accident site to ensure that no one remained trapped inside the bus.

The impact of the collision was severe, causing the truck to overturn while the bus fell into a water-filled drain, she said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the deaths and announced financial assistance for the victims' families.

The state government has ordered Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those killed and Rs 1 lakh each for seriously injured passengers.

In a post on X, he said, "The news of the deaths of passengers in the collision between a bus and a dumper on the Rewa-Sidhi highway today is extremely heartbreaking. I pray for the peace of the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured."

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Anurag Tiwari said additional beds had been reserved at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital to ensure that any other injured passengers could receive immediate treatment if required.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision, he said.

National Highway 39 connects Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh with Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, and passes through Madhya Pradesh.
