Two schools in Karnataka face action after allegations of student assault

Bengaluru: Police have filed a case against a private school in Bengaluru following allegations that a Class 5 student was beaten and locked in a room by school staff. In a separate incident, a teacher at a traditional pathashala (traditional school) in Chitradurga has come under scrutiny after a video surfaced showing him physically assaulting a young student.
The first incident occurred on October 14 at a private school in Sunkadakatte, Magadi Road, Bengaluru. According to police, the child’s mother alleged that the school principal, Rakesh Kumar, and a teacher, Chandrika, assaulted her son with a PVC pipe and confined him in a room until late in the evening. The alleged reason for the assault was the student’s irregular attendance.
Police questioned the principal, who reportedly admitted to the assault. He was later released on bail. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
In a similar incident, a disturbing video has emerged from Nayakanahatti village in Chitradurga district, where a fifth standard student at a temple-affiliated pathashala was seen being kicked and beaten by a teacher. The incident reportedly occurred after the child made a phone call to his grandmother.
The teacher, identified as Veeresh Hiremath, is seen in the video repeatedly attacking the boy. The video has sparked outrage on social media, prompting the state education department to launch an inquiry into the matter.
Authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken in both cases once investigations are complete.
