As heavy monsoon rains continue to batter parts of Maharashtra and other regions of India, students and parents are eagerly awaiting updates on school holidays for July 7.

With flooding, waterlogging, transport disruptions and landslide risks reported in several districts, authorities have already announced closures in some areas, while others are expected to review the situation based on weather conditions.

Maharashtra: Where schools are confirmed closed on July 7

The most important announcements have come from Maharashtra, where heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has triggered red alerts in several regions.

In Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), authorities have ordered schools and colleges to remain closed after intense rainfall led to widespread waterlogging and disruptions across the city, confirmed Mayor Ritu Tawde. The closure applies to government, municipal, aided, unaided and private educational institutions.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, after reviewing the rain situation and disaster preparedness measures, said Nashik has been identified as a high-alert zone and confirmed that schools and colleges in the district will remain closed, reported ANI.

Officials have also urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and follow weather advisories issued by authorities.

The civic administration has intensified monitoring efforts as forecasts point to continued rainfall accompanied by strong winds and high tides over the coming days.

Pune, Lonavala monitoring situation

Schools in Pune and Lonavala remained closed on July 6 following heavy rainfall and weather warnings.

As of now, authorities are continuing to assess the situation. If rainfall remains intense and safety concerns persist, local administrations may consider extending school holidays in vulnerable areas. However, parents and students should wait for official notifications before assuming closures for July 7.

Uttarakhand: Rain and landslides disrupt normal life

Several parts of Uttarakhand have also witnessed severe weather conditions, with landslides and road blockages affecting daily activities.

District administrations in some rain-hit areas have ordered schools to remain closed as a precautionary measure. The Badrinath National Highway has been affected at multiple points due to landslides, prompting authorities to prioritise student safety.

Further announcements regarding school operations are expected to be issued by district administrations based on evolving weather conditions.

IMD warns of heavy rainfall across multiple states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states over the next few days.

Regions under close watch include:

  • Gujarat
  • Goa
  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Odisha
  • Jharkhand
  • Bihar
  • Himachal Pradesh

Local administrations in these states may announce district-specific school holidays if weather conditions deteriorate.

School holiday tomorrow: What parents should know

At present, school holidays for July 7 have been officially confirmed in Mumbai, Nashik and several adjoining districts affected by severe rainfall.

For other regions, including some parts of Pune and additional rain-hit districts across the country, decisions will depend on local weather conditions and administrative assessments.

Students and parents are advised to rely only on official sources for updates, including district administration announcements, education department notifications, municipal corporation advisories and direct communication from schools.

With the monsoon remaining active across large parts of India, authorities may issue fresh closure orders at short notice if conditions worsen.
