‘My heart goes out to students...’ Salman Khan backs CJP protest as netizens question other Khans

Mumbai: Salman Khan has broken his silence on the ongoing student protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, saying, “My heart goes out to the students and their families who were hurt.” The actor’s statement comes amid growing online questions over why other prominent members of Bollywood’s Khan family have not publicly addressed the protests.

In a social media post shared late Wednesday, Salman said he was saddened that what began as a peaceful movement had turned violent. He also backed the students’ demand for a stronger education system and said the alleged paper leak was a serious matter.

“It was such a peaceful movement, feel so sad that it had to take a violent turn. My heart goes out to the students and their families who were hurt. Paper leak is a very serious issue, and I am glad to know and see that the kids of our country have come together for a better educational system, and their parents supported them,” he wrote.

He also stated that the student’s movement should not become a political issue. According to the actor, the protests were centred on students and the education system, and the focus should remain on their concerns.

He further said that the movement reflected the determination of young Indians and expressed hope that the government would support efforts to strengthen the education system.

The actor’s comments have come at a time when several members of the film fraternity have extended support to the protesting students. Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Shabana Azmi, Prakash Raj, Rajkummar Rao, Revathy, Tovino Thomas and Anurag Kashyap are among those who have spoken about the issue.

Salman is also the first among Bollywood’s three leading Khans to publicly comment on the protests. His statement has consequently drawn attention online, with netizens questioning the silence of Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan on the ongoing demonstrations.

The actor’s remarks came after protesters faced police action during the CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march in Delhi.

The demonstration sought action over alleged irregularities in examinations and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
