Bengaluru has added another feather to its cap as Rolls-Royce, the British aerospace and defence giant, inaugurated its largest Global Capability and Innovation Centre (GCC) at Manyata Embassy Business Park.

The new 700-seater facility will support the company’s civil aerospace, defence, and power systems businesses worldwide. It will also house global digital teams and enterprise services, making Bengaluru a key hub in Rolls-Royce’s international operations.

Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil, who inaugurated the centre, said the investment underlines Karnataka’s leadership in aerospace and defence manufacturing. “The talented team in Bengaluru will now power Rolls-Royce’s global businesses. This expansion reaffirms Karnataka’s position as India’s leading hub for aerospace, defence and advanced engineering,” he said.

Patil also linked the development to the Make in India initiative, noting that global players like Rolls-Royce are increasingly integrating Indian suppliers into their supply chains.

“Our aerospace and defence policy is investor-friendly and provides attractive incentives. The strong research culture in the state further complements and strengthens this ecosystem,” he added.

The new facility is also expected to create more high-skilled engineering and technology jobs, adding to the 3,000 people already working with Rolls-Royce in India, of which 2,000 are engineers in Karnataka.

Rolls-Royce has a long history in India, from working with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in the 1950s to supplying over 1,400 engines that power the Indian Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Army today.

With this expansion, the company has also confirmed plans to double sourcing from India within the next five years, giving local suppliers more opportunities to join its global value chain.
