‘Negligence regarding Delhi’s security cannot be tolerated’: Kejriwal on Red Fort blast
New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Monday expressed deep concern over the explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station, calling for an immediate investigation into the circumstances and potential conspiracies behind the incident.
“The news of the explosion near the Red Fort is deeply concerning. It is being reported that some people have lost their lives, and this is deeply saddening. The police and government should immediately investigate how this explosion occurred and whether there is a larger conspiracy behind it. Negligence regarding Delhi's security cannot be tolerated,” Kejriwal said on X.
The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of Lal Quila Metro Station, left eight people dead and 12 critically injured, according to police and hospital sources. Several vehicles caught fire in the explosion, while windows of nearby cars were shattered. Emergency responders rushed the injured to LNJP Hospital, and the Delhi Fire Services deployed seven fire tenders to control the blaze.
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahani also expressed condolences, urging calm and caution while investigations proceed. Athawale stressed, “The security agencies are conducting a thorough investigation, and as soon as any confirmed and verified information is received, rely only on that. Do not spread rumours and maintain patience for now. The investigation is ongoing, and the situation will become clear soon.”
The Delhi Police and anti-terror units have cordoned off the area. A high alert was issued in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai, with authorities monitoring for any further threats.
The explosion comes a day after Jammu & Kashmir Police and Haryana authorities busted an inter-state terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, recovering 2,900 kg of explosives, weapons, and timers, and arresting seven suspects. Officials are investigating a potential link between the terror module and the Red Fort blast.
