RCB’s IPL triumph sparks traffic chaos in Bengaluru, Hyderabad; videos go viral

Bengaluru: Celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s second win at the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday night spilled onto the streets across multiple cities, with several viral videos showing fans creating public disorder, damaging property, and disrupting traffic.
As thousands of supporters celebrated RCB’s victory over the Gujarat Titans, videos from Bengaluru, Hyderabad and parts of Andhra Pradesh surfaced online, capturing scenes of overcrowded streets, firecracker displays and alleged vandalism.
The footage quickly went viral, prompting criticism from social media users and raising concerns over public safety.
Several videos from Hyderabad showed large groups occupying roads, pulling down barricades and setting off firecrackers in busy public areas.
In some clips, people were seen climbing onto moving vehicles, while traffic movement was severely affected in several locations.
Videos spark criticism online
The videos triggered strong reactions on social media, with many users arguing that celebrations had crossed the line into lawlessness. Several users stressed that sporting victories should be celebrated responsibly and without causing inconvenience to the public.
One social media user criticised those who blocked roads and damaged public property, while praising law enforcement authorities for acting against individuals allegedly involved in the disturbances.
Others called for stricter crowd management measures during large-scale public celebrations.

Bengaluru, the home city of RCB, also witnessed massive gatherings as fans celebrated the franchise’s long-awaited IPL crown.
Authorities, however, maintained heightened security arrangements following last year’s stampede tragedy that claimed 11 lives during post-victory celebrations.
Despite the security presence, videos from parts of the city showed overcrowded streets and traffic congestion as supporters continued celebrations late into the night.
Public bus allegedly damaged in Andhra Pradesh
Meanwhile, another viral video from Andhra Pradesh drew widespread attention after a group of alleged RCB supporters was seen damaging a public bus following the team’s title triumph.
The incident sparked fresh outrage online, with users questioning the need for vandalism during sporting celebrations. Several commentators warned that large gatherings can quickly become unmanageable without adequate policing and crowd-control measures.
While RCB fans continued to celebrate the franchise’s historic achievement, the viral videos have reignited debate over balancing public celebrations with civic responsibility and public safety.
