Rajasthan heatwave: Barmer hits 46.4°C as brief relief forecasted

Jaipur: Rajasthan remains in the grip of a punishing heatwave, with temperatures soaring to nearly 47°C in some districts. However, the Meteorological Department has offered a glimmer of hope, issuing alerts for light rain and gusty winds in Jaipur, Alwar and surrounding regions.

Record-breaking temperatures

According to weather officials, the majority of the state is currently experiencing temperatures 2∘C to 4∘ C above the seasonal average. Barmer emerged as the state's hottest spot over the last 24 hours, peaking at 46.4°C. Jaisalmer closely followed at 46°C, while Kota and Chittorgarh both crossed the 45°C mark. Conversely, Jawai Dam in Pali recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature at 22.8°C.

Erratic weather patterns

Despite the intense heat, the weather has not been uniform. While "warm nights" persist in several districts, some areas have seen sudden shifts.

Rainfall: Gangapur City recorded 6.0 mm of rain, the highest in the state recently.

Dust storms: Areas like Bikaner, Ajmer and Bhilwara saw afternoon cloud cover followed by dusty winds and light drizzles.

The week ahead

While the heatwave is expected to maintain its hold in the short term, a more major shift is predicted between April 28 and April 30. Meteorologists anticipate a broader respite during this window, with thunderstorms, increased rainfall and potential hailstorms likely to bring temperatures down across several districts.
