'Kangana needs treatment...' Punjab minister attacks BJP MP over remarks on farmers protest

Days after actress-MP Kangana Ranaut made controversial remarks on the farmers' protest, Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has slammed the actress saying that she 'needs treatment'.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Cheema said: "Regarding Kangana Ranaut, my suggestion is that her party's president should send her to a good hospital so that she can get good treatment there. She needs treatment because she is ruining the country's brotherhood by speaking against the farmers of the country, sometimes against a particular section."
"She should be treated immediately in a good hospital. This parliament can bear the expenses. The country's speaker and the Bharatiya Janata Party have funds, she should be treated by arranging funds from there," he added.
What did Kangana Ranaut say?
In a video posted on Monday, the Mandi MP discussed an interview with Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar, where she claimed that a "Bangladesh-like situation" might have unfolded in India without robust leadership.
She also alleged that during the farmers' protest against the now-repealed farm laws, “bodies were hanging and rapes were taking place,” and accused China and the US of being involved in a "conspiracy," drawing sharp criticism from opposition parties.
How did BJP respond to Kangana's remarks?
In response, the BJP swiftly denounced her comments, stating that they did not align with the party's stance and made it clear that she is neither authorized nor permitted to speak on party policy matters.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has instructed Kangana Ranaut not to make similar statements in the future," the ruling party said in a statement, emphasizing its commitment to the principles of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas' and social harmony.
Following her reprimand, Kangana met with BJP President JP Nadda at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday. This meeting marks the second time Ranaut has engaged with the BJP president since her remarks sparked controversy.
