Pune: In a significant twist to a disturbing case, a 22-year-old IT professional in Pune who had initially alleged she was raped by a courier delivery agent has now told police the incident involved her friend, not a stranger, and that she filed the complaint "out of anger", according to officials.

"She said she wasn't ready for what happened(sexual intercourse) that day, but her friend forced her into it anyway. So out of anger, she filed a complaint with the police that she was raped," said Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, as reported by NDTV.

The woman had earlier claimed that a man posing as a courier delivery agent entered her flat in the Kondhwa area while she was alone, sexually assaulted her, took a selfie using her phone, and left a message threatening to release her pictures online if she reported the incident.

However, during the investigation, police discovered inconsistencies in her account. The suspect, a highly qualified professional, turned out to be someone the woman knew personally. The two had met at a community event and had visited each other's homes several times. The woman has now admitted to having given false information initially.

According to the police, the selfie in question was taken by the woman herself and later edited to partially hide the man's identity. She also allegedly typed out the threatening message that she had claimed was left by the accused.

Sources told NDTV that both families were acquainted, and the man would often visit her home when her family was away, sometimes using parcel deliveries as a reason to come over.

While the investigation is ongoing, the police are now reviewing the case in light of the woman’s revised statement and the nature of consent involved in the incident.
