New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the newly-built office of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Delhi unit at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Marg. Following the inauguration, he recalled the party’s role during the 1984 Sikh riots, praising Delhi BJP workers for stepping in to protect Sikh citizens during one of the city’s darkest periods. He described the violence as a devastating blow to the soul and humanity of Delhi.

Speaking further about the party’s history, Modi said, “The relationship between Delhi and the BJP isn't just about a city and a party. It's about service, culture. First, as the Jan Sangh and then as the BJP, our party has been connected to the heart of Delhi and its interests.”

He reflected on the party’s role since its founding, noting that Jan Sangh workers assisted those arriving in Delhi after Partition and that leaders like L.K. Advani and V.K. Malhotra became the voice of Delhi residents when the Metropolitan Council was formed. Modi also mentioned how Jan Sangh leaders supported people during the Emergency against government oppression.

Modi also spoke about the renewed mandate for the BJP in Delhi, emphasising the responsibility of public representatives to meet the aspirations of the city’s residents.

He said, “After a gap of many years, Delhi now has a BJP government. The people of Delhi have placed their dreams and hopes for a better future in the BJP. Therefore, every public representative sitting in the new state office has a huge responsibility. The Delhi BJP, our government, is working hard to meet the expectations of the people of Delhi.”

He highlighted the government’s ongoing initiatives, including building new homes for slum dwellers, upgrading hundreds of government schools and hospitals, introducing electric buses, cleaning the Yamuna River, and developing luxurious living spaces across the city.

He continued, “Building new homes for those living in slums, improving hundreds of government schools and hospitals in Delhi, introducing hundreds of electric buses in Delhi, working day and night to clean the Yamuna River, creating luxurious living spaces along the Yamuna River and other parts of the city. When the Delhi BJP government and the Delhi BJP office work shoulder to shoulder like this, we will be able to fulfill the dream of a developed India and a developed Delhi more quickly.”

Modi also highlighted the achievements of the BJP-led governments at the Centre, noting their focus on governance, development, and citizen security. He said, “The BJP-NDA governments have given the country a new model of good governance. We are moving forward with the mantra of development and legacy. We have given the highest priority to the security of the country and its citizens. We have freed the country from major scams. Our governments' focus is on delivery, and also on increasing the savings of the common man.”

The new office, constructed with modern facilities, is designed to further strengthen organisational activities and provide a centralised hub for party workers and leaders in the national capital.

According to party sources, the state-of-the-art office reflects the BJP's commitment to efficient organisational functioning and outreach in Delhi. The new building is equipped with advanced communication systems, meeting halls, and dedicated spaces for the coordination of party programmes.

BJP came to power in Delhi in February this year after 27 years.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister performed a havan at the new BJP Delhi headquarters.

Delhi BJP leaders, including Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ashish Sood, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Harsh Malhotra, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Yogender Chandolia, and Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva, were present at the ceremony.

"The office, funded by donations, underscores BJP's identity as a service organisation," Rekha Gupta said.

Ashish Sood described the new premises as "a centre where the party workers take inspiration to serve the public.
