New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the latest figure to feature in the viral Studio Ghibli-inspired art trend. The Union government recently shared a captivating collection of AI-generated portraits, reimagining significant moments from his tenure in the signature style of the renowned Japanese animation studio.
Taking to its X account on Friday, the government posted a series of images accompanied by the caption, "Main character? No. He's the whole storyline. Experience New India in Studio Ghibli strokes."
These digital artworks transformed key instances from PM Modi's political career into dreamy, pastel-toned visuals reminiscent of the classic films by animator Hayao Miyazaki.
AI art highlights major milestones
The collection includes AI-crafted depictions of Modi’s engagements with global leaders, such as former US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. Other images showcase him in an Indian Army uniform, holding the national flag, and standing before the historic 'Sengol' sceptre, which was ceremoniously placed in the new Parliament in 2023.
One AI-generated image portrays Modi’s sortie in a Tejas Twin Seat Light Combat Aircraft, while another features him standing beside a Vande Bharat train. Additionally, the series captures moments from his visit to the Maldives and his participation in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cleanliness campaign.
Shashi Tharoor joins the trend
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also joined in, experimenting with the AI tool to create Ghibli-style versions of his own images. Sharing the artwork on X, he wrote, "I've been assimilated into the Ghibli trend! These are pics sent by my supporters and well-wishers. Didn't even know what Ghibli was till now, but consider me officially Spirited Away by this newfound revelation."
The Studio Ghibli-inspired art trend has taken social media by storm, with AI-generated illustrations turning prominent figures and moments into whimsical, animation-like visuals.
