New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on August 2 from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The ₹20,500 crore disbursal will benefit 9.7 crore farmers across India.

The announcement coincides with the scheme marking over five years since its launch in 2019. To date, the government has transferred ₹3.69 lakh crore directly into farmers’ bank accounts through 19 instalments under the flagship direct benefit transfer programme.

“The next instalment of PM-Kisan will be released on August 2. In the 20th instalment, an amount of approximately ₹20,500 crore will be transferred to 9.7 crore farmers,” the agriculture ministry confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister will launch the latest payment during a special programme held in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. Ahead of the event, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a preparatory meeting at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi to oversee the arrangements.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr M L Jat, and other senior officials from the ministry.

Under the PM-Kisan scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each, transferred directly to their bank accounts. The initiative is aimed at offering income support to small and marginal farming families with cultivable land.

To receive the 20th instalment, farmers must complete their e-KYC, link their Aadhaar number to their bank accounts, and ensure their land records are accurate. The government has been stressing the importance of these prerequisites to minimise fraud and ensure that the benefits reach legitimate recipients.

Over the years, PM-Kisan has become one of the government’s most significant rural welfare measures, offering critical financial assistance to millions of farming households across the country.
