New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a key meeting of the Union Council of Ministers at Sewa Teerth in Delhi on Thursday, in what is being seen as an important review of governance, policy implementation, and the government’s future priorities. The high-level gathering — the first such meeting this year — has also fuelled speculation about a possible cabinet reshuffle.

Scheduled to begin at 4.30 pm, the meeting will bring together cabinet ministers, ministers of state with independent charge, and ministers of state. Sources said the deliberations could continue for nearly five hours.

According to reports, discussions on a potential reshuffle of the Union Cabinet are expected to feature prominently during the meeting. The performance of various ministries, major policy decisions taken so far, and their impact on governance are likely to come under review, along with strategies and corrective measures for the months ahead.

The meeting is also expected to focus on improving the implementation of flagship government schemes and ensuring better delivery mechanisms for public welfare programmes. Ahead of the session, ministries had submitted reports to the Cabinet Secretariat detailing reform initiatives undertaken over the past two years, along with a list of successful schemes implemented during the Modi government’s 12 years in office.

Sources added that the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and the Iran conflict are also likely to figure in the discussions, particularly their possible impact on India’s economy, energy security, trade flows, and inflation. The Prime Minister may issue directions to ministries on measures aimed at minimising the burden on citizens.
