Fake claim alert: PIB Fact Check denies viral Assam Rifles Manipur allegation

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit has rejected a viral social media claim alleging wrongdoing by security forces in Manipur.
A post circulating on Friday had claimed that Assam Rifles personnel were “caught red-handed” transporting tactical uniforms, bulletproof vests, and other equipment to armed groups in Ukhrul district, Manipur. The message further made serious allegations of collusion and described the Indian State as “not neutral” in the ongoing ethnic tensions.
However, the Press Information Bureau Fact Check has clarified that the claim is completely false. In its official response, PIB Fact Check stated that no such incident involving Assam Rifles personnel has taken place and described the viral message as misinformation.
The agency also urged citizens not to share unverified or sensitive content that could inflame tensions or spread false narratives. It emphasised the importance of relying on official sources for accurate information, especially in matters related to security forces and conflict-sensitive regions.
Authorities have repeatedly warned that misinformation related to Manipur’s ethnic situation can worsen public tensions and create unnecessary panic. PIB has encouraged users to report suspicious content directly for verification through its official WhatsApp and email channels.
The clarification comes amid continued monitoring of social media platforms for misleading or fabricated claims involving security forces and sensitive regions.
