Passport fees hiked from July 1: Tatkal charges rise up to Rs 2,500; Check new rates

The Centre has revised passport application charges across categories, increasing the cost of fresh passports, renewals and replacement passports from July 1, 2026. The revised fee structure, notified by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), brings a substantial hike in both regular and Tatkal passport services.
The increase is expected to affect first-time applicants, passport renewal seekers and those requiring urgent Tatkal processing, with some categories witnessing fee hikes of up to Rs 2,500.
The revised charges have been notified through amendments to the Passports Rules, 1980, under the provisions of the Passports Act, 1967.
What has changed?
The biggest impact will be on applicants opting for Tatkal passports, where fees have risen sharply across categories. Charges for standard passport applications have also been increased for both adults and minors.

| Category | Previous Fee | Revised Fee |
| Fresh/Reissue Passport (36 pages) - Adult | Rs 1,500 | Rs 2,500 |

| 60-page Passport | Rs 6,000 | Rs 8,500 |
New passport fees for minors
The revised notification also increases passport fees for applicants below 18 years of age.

| Fresh/Reissue Passport (36 pages) | Rs 1,750 | Rs 4,250 |
| Replacement of Lost/Damaged Passport | Rs 4,250 | Rs 6,750 |
Under the earlier fee structure, minors generally paid Rs 1,000 for a passport valid for five years or until attaining the age of 18 years. Children up to eight years of age continue to be eligible for the existing concessions applicable to fresh passport applications.
The new fee structure will come into force from July 1, 2026, and will apply to all eligible passport applications submitted on or after that date.
