Meet Lalit Salve, a cop who underwent sex change surgery and is now a father

Mumbai: Lalita Salve, who was a woman constable in the Maharashtra police seven years ago, has now become a father. Many raised eyebrows when Lalita decided to undergo gender reassignment surgery to become Lalit Salve in 2013. He married his wife in 2020 and is now the proud father of a baby boy named Arush on January 15, 2024.
Lalit was born in 1988 in Beed district. In 2013, a medical examination proved the presence of male hormones. When Lalit did not get leave from the police department to perform the surgery, he approached the Bombay High Court. With the permission of the court, Lalit underwent three surgeries at the St George Hospital in Mumbai.
Later, Lalit married Seema and is now living his life happily. Baby Arush has brought happiness and a ray of confidence into their family, the couple say.
The biggest support during gender transition must come from parents, Salve says. He stressed the importance of counselling before and after the surgery. The first and most difficult challenge, he adds, is coming out to his family. Fortunately, he was able to overcome all of this with the support of his family.
