'No longer Indian citizens': Assam CM’s shocking claim about sitting MP’s children

Guwahati: A major political controversy has erupted in Assam after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the minor children of a sitting Member of Parliament from the state are "no longer citizens of India." The statement was made on May 1 through his official social media account on X.
"I say this with full responsibility — the minor children of one Member of Parliament from Assam are no longer citizens of India. But this is just the beginning. There is much more yet to be revealed," Sarma wrote, without naming the MP.
However, the statement is widely seen as a reference to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who has frequently been targeted by the Chief Minister in recent weeks.
Sarma also claimed to have evidence of Gogoi's visits to Pakistan and Nepal, adding that this information would be made public before September. "We have clear evidence of his visit to Pakistan and Nepal," he said.
Further intensifying the issue, the Chief Minister questioned the citizenship status of Gogoi’s wife and children and alleged that Gogoi's wife might be receiving a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while living in India. No documents were shared to support these claims.
When asked about Pakistani nationals residing in Assam, Sarma said, “We have got evidence of only one lady,” but did not elaborate.
The controversy deepened on Sunday when a heated exchange between Sarma and Gogoi took place on X, with both leaders accusing each other and raising pointed questions.
