Tel Aviv (Israel): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences on the passing of Ratan Tata, the former chairperson of the Tata Group, in a message posted on X on Saturday. Addressing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Netanyahu stressed Tata's contributions to India and his key role in strengthening Israel-India relations.

"I and many in Israel mourn the loss of Ratan Naval Tata, a proud son of India and a champion of the friendship between our two countries," Netanyahu wrote. He extended his sympathies to Tata's family and praised the industrialist’s enduring legacy.

Ratan Tata passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86, after receiving treatment at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. His funeral, held with state honours in Mumbai, marked the end of a life that significantly impacted global industry and philanthropy.

Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, Tata was known for both his business leadership and philanthropic efforts. During his tenure as Chairman of Tata Sons, he expanded the Tata Group’s international presence with major acquisitions, including Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley. In recognition of his immense contributions, Tata was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.

Several global leaders also expressed their sorrow at Tata's death. German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann described Tata as a "wonderful person" and a "fantastic entrepreneur". Recalling his meeting with Tata 15 years earlier, Ackermann said his passing was a great loss for India, underlining Tata’s role as both an industrialist and a philanthropist.

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti shared memories of Tata, noting that Tata was the first person to reach out to him after his nomination as ambassador. Garcetti highlighted Tata’s vast vision, calling it "as limitless as the horizon," and emphasised his lasting contributions to both India and the world.

French President Emmanuel Macron also extended his condolences, acknowledging Tata's significant impact on industries in both India and France. Macron lauded Tata’s "humanist vision" and lifelong dedication to societal improvement.
