Navi Mumbai Airport launch: When you can fly, ticket booking dates & high-tech features explained

Navi Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), constructed at an estimated cost of ₹19,650 crore. This new airport places Mumbai among the few global cities with multiple airports, joining the ranks of London, New York, and Tokyo.

When will flights begin?

Flight operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport are scheduled to start in December 2025. Ticket sales for flights are expected to open by the end of October, with major airlines like IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express already preparing to operate from the new airport.

Built at nearly ₹20,000 crore, NMIA is a major addition to Mumbai’s infrastructure, easing pressure on the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. With this, Mumbai joins other metropolitan regions globally that have multiple airports. Similarly, New Delhi’s metropolitan area also has multiple airports, including Hindon, Jewar, and the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

India’s first fully digital airport

NMIA is being hailed as India’s first fully digital airport, offering modern conveniences such as pre-booking vehicle parking slots, online baggage drop bookings, and seamless immigration services. These digital features are designed to reduce waiting times and enhance passenger convenience.

The airport is being developed in five phases by the Adani Group in collaboration with the City Industrial Development Corporation.
