The Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Development Authority has given administrative approval for a major expansion of Nashik’s Ozar Airport, with the project expected to be completed before the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in March 2027. The decision was taken during a meeting held via video conference, chaired by the Authority’s Chairman and Divisional Commissioner, Dr Praveen Gedam.

The Authority has approved the construction of a new integrated terminal building at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Nashik (Ozar). The project includes several supporting developments such as landscaping, improved transport facilities, a new apron area, expanded parking zones and overall campus upgrades. The total estimated cost of the expansion is INR 556 crore.

Nashik Airport currently operates flights to New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, and is equipped for night operations. As part of the expansion plan, a new 17,800 sq. m passenger terminal building will be constructed.

A new 1,15,220 sq. m apron will be developed to support aircraft parking, boarding, deplaning and baggage handling.

A dedicated 25,000 sq. m parking area will be created for passengers and vehicles.

New facilities such as passenger boarding bridges (aero bridges), scanners and upgraded security equipment will be installed.

With the Simhastha Kumbh Mela expected to draw millions of visitors, the airport expansion is seen as critical for the region. The project will increase Nashik Airport’s passenger handling capacity from the current 300 passengers per hour to 1,000 passengers per hour after the upgrade.

Authorities believe the expansion will significantly boost regional connectivity, support tourism during the Kumbh Mela and create new economic and employment opportunities for Nashik and the surrounding districts.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Maharashtra State Government and HAL will soon be signed to formally begin the project.
