Radioactive threat to RSS HQ: No trace found after massive Nagpur sweep

Nagpur: Authorities in Nagpur have found no evidence of radioactive material after an anonymous letter claimed that hazardous substances had been dispersed at multiple high-profile locations, including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters.
Threat letter triggers city-wide security sweep
The letter, reportedly received by the Nagpur Police Commissioner on April 27, claimed that Caesium-137, a radioactive substance, had been planted at several locations across the city. These included the RSS headquarters in Mahal, the Dr Hedgewar Smriti Mandir complex in Reshimbagh, BJP offices, Nagpur Metro trains, and city bus routes.
The message described the act as a “warning” and hinted at further actions, raising serious security concerns.
ATS, NDRF and experts conduct extensive checks
Following the threat, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) launched a large-scale search operation. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and experts from India’s atomic energy department were deployed with radiation detection equipment.
All the locations mentioned in the letter were thoroughly scanned. Officials have confirmed that no radioactive or suspicious material has been found so far.

Case registered, investigation underway
An FIR has been filed based on a complaint by the ATS under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Investigators are currently conducting forensic analysis of the letter to trace its origin and identify those responsible for the threat.
The letter also claimed responsibility for a recent incident involving the recovery of gelatin sticks, detonators, and cartridges near a residence in Nagpur earlier this month.
Authorities are examining whether there is any connection between the two incidents, though no confirmation has been made so far.
Nagpur on alert amid recent threat pattern
The incident comes amid a series of recent security scares in Nagpur, including bomb threat hoaxes targeting public institutions. Officials have maintained heightened vigilance as investigations continue.
While the extensive search has ruled out the presence of radioactive material at the identified sites, authorities have not ruled out the seriousness of the threat.
Security agencies remain on alert as they work to track down the source of the letter and prevent any potential risk.
