Mumbai: A bomb threat call targeting Mumbai's iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel prompted an extensive security sweep on Sunday, with police launching an investigation to trace the caller after no suspicious object was immediately found.

Mumbai Police launched an investigation on Sunday after the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel received a bomb threat call, triggering a high-security response and a detailed search of the heritage property.

According to police, the threat information was received through a call made to the Navi Mumbai Police around 12 noon. The caller allegedly claimed that the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel would be blown up. The alert was immediately shared with Mumbai Police, which swiftly initiated security protocols.

Police teams carried out a comprehensive search of the hotel premises to ensure the safety of guests, staff and visitors. Officials thoroughly inspected the property, but no suspicious object or explosive material was immediately reported.

Following the operation, Mumbai Police began investigating the origin of the call and efforts are underway to identify and trace the individual responsible for making the threat. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the call originated from within Maharashtra or another location.

Second bomb threat in two days

The latest incident comes just a day after another bomb threat triggered a major security alert at Delhi's Red Fort.

In that case, a threat call received by the Mumbai Police Control Room was immediately shared with Delhi Police. Security agencies conducted an extensive search of the Red Fort complex, but the threat was later declared a hoax after nothing suspicious was found.

Investigators are also attempting to trace the caller behind that incident.

With two high-profile bomb threats reported within 48 hours, security agencies are examining whether the incidents are connected or merely coincidental. Officials have not confirmed any link so far.

Police have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information and said strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for making hoax threat calls, which divert emergency resources and create public panic.

Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
