IMD forecast: Mumbai to remain rainy and cloudy until October 6

Mumbai is set to witness a cloudy and wet start to October, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain until October 6.
Although the southwest monsoon has weakened, its complete withdrawal is expected only after October 5, meaning showers will continue to linger over the city through the coming week.
According to IMD officials, October 1 to 4 will see generally cloudy skies accompanied by intermittent spells of moderate rain.
Daytime temperatures are expected to stay steady at around 29–30°C, while nighttime temperatures will hover between 24–25°C. Humidity levels are likely to remain high, making the weather sticky despite occasional showers.
On October 5, the city is expected to experience a slight change in conditions. The morning is likely to begin partly cloudy, but the skies may turn cloudy by evening or night, bringing a chance of rain or thundershowers.
A similar pattern is forecast for October 6, with partly cloudy mornings and the possibility of rainfall later in the day.
The extended showers mark the final phase of Mumbai’s monsoon season, which has once again exposed the city’s long-standing civic challenges.
This year’s September rainfall was far above normal, with both Colaba and Santacruz weather stations recording nearly 60% excess rain.
Colaba registered 601 mm of rain, while Santacruz recorded 612 mm. By September 20, the monthly average had already been surpassed, resulting in severe waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and flight delays across the city.
The heavy September rainfall, however, has ensured an adequate water supply for the year ahead. All seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai have filled.
As of September 30, the total water stock stood at 14.2 lakh million litres — 98.4% of the required amount — slightly lower than the 99.3% recorded on the same date in 2024.
IMD officials have clarified that the official withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from Maharashtra will be declared only after October 5. Once it retreats, the city is expected to see clearer skies and drier conditions.
For now, Mumbai residents should brace for continued cloudy weather, intermittent rain, and possible thundershowers through October 6, before finally bidding farewell to the 2025 monsoon.
