Mumbai rain impact: Landslide cancels Mumbai-Pune trains, flight delays reported

Heavy monsoon rain across Mumbai and neighbouring districts has severely disrupted both rail and air travel, with a landslide on the Mumbai-Pune railway route forcing train cancellations and diversions, while airlines have warned of possible flight delays due to adverse weather conditions.

The travel disruption comes amid continuing heavy rainfall across Maharashtra, with weather warnings in place for several regions and waterlogging reported at multiple locations.

Mumbai-Pune train services affected after landslide

The biggest impact has been on passengers travelling between Mumbai and Pune, one of the country's busiest rail corridors.

A landslide triggered by continuous rainfall in the ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala led to debris falling on a railway track, affecting train movement and forcing Central Railway to alter several services.

Multiple daily trains popular among office-goers, business travellers and weekend passengers have been cancelled, including key Mumbai-Pune services such as the Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Indrayani Express, Pragati Express, Sinhagad Express and Intercity Express.

In addition to cancellations, several long-distance trains passing through the route have been diverted via alternate corridors to keep services running. Railway officials are monitoring the situation as restoration work continues in the affected section.

Passengers travelling between Mumbai and Pune have been advised to verify train schedules before heading to railway stations, as operational changes may continue depending on weather conditions.

The disruption is not limited to the Mumbai-Pune sector.

Western Railway has reported waterlogging on parts of its suburban and long-distance network, affecting services passing through the Vasai-Virar belt and other northern sections of Mumbai Division.

Some passenger trains have been cancelled, while a few long-distance services have either been short-terminated, short-originated or rescheduled because of flooding on tracks.

Several trains departing from Mumbai later in the day are also running behind schedule, prompting railway authorities to urge passengers to check real-time updates before commencing their journey.

Flights from Mumbai may face delays

Air travellers are also likely to feel the impact of the weather.

Akasa Air has issued an advisory warning that heavy rain in Mumbai, Pune and Goa could lead to delays across parts of its network. The airline has requested passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and to allow additional travel time because of weather-related disruptions.

While airports remain operational, heavy rainfall can affect aircraft movement, visibility and turnaround schedules, resulting in delays that may ripple through multiple flights during the day.

With rain continuing across Mumbai and adjoining areas, passengers travelling by train or flight should closely monitor official updates from railways and airlines.
