2 visits to Russia in 3 months shows our close coordination, deep friendship: PM Modi

Kazan (Russia): Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the deep friendship and close coordination between India and Russia, stating that his two visits to Russia in the past three months underscore the strong ties between the two nations. Speaking ahead of the 16th BRICS Summit, Modi expressed his anticipation for further strengthening cooperation within the BRICS framework.
In a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Prime Minister highlighted the progress made during the annual summit held in Moscow in July, which bolstered India-Russia collaboration across various sectors.
"My two visits to Russia in the last three months reflect our close coordination and deep friendship. Our Annual Summit in Moscow in July has strengthened our cooperation in every field," Modi said. He also noted the growing influence of BRICS, saying, "In 15 years, BRICS has created its special identity, and now many countries of the world want to join it."
Regarding the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Modi reiterated India's support for peaceful resolution and the early establishment of stability. "I have been in constant touch with you on the subject of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. We fully support the early establishment of peace and stability," he said, offering India's cooperation in future peace efforts.
The Prime Minister also announced the opening of a new Indian consulate in Kazan, aimed at further strengthening the ties between India and the Russian city. "India has deep and historical ties with this city. The opening of India's new consulate in Kazan will further strengthen these ties," Modi remarked.
Focus on BRICS Cooperation
In his departure statement before leaving for the summit, PM Modi had underscored the importance of BRICS as a platform for dialogue on global issues such as multilateralism, climate change, and economic cooperation. He also highlighted the expansion of BRICS with new member countries, enhancing its inclusivity and global impact.
"India values the close cooperation within BRICS, which has emerged as an important platform for dialogue and discussion on issues concerning the global developmental agenda," he stated.
PM Modi's visit to Kazan is seen as a continuation of the strategic partnership between India and Russia, which was further solidified during the annual summit in Moscow earlier this year. He will also hold bilateral meetings with other BRICS leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
