Amravati (Maharashtra): A wedding celebration in Maharashtra’s Amravati district turned violent on Monday night when the groom was stabbed on stage. In an extraordinary twist, a drone hired to film the festivities captured not only the attack but also tracked the fleeing suspect and his accomplice for nearly two kilometres.

The incident occurred around 9:30 pm at Sahil Lawn on Badnera Road during the wedding ceremony of 22-year-old Sujal Ram Samudra. The assailant, identified as Ragho Jitendra Bakshi, allegedly approached the groom on stage and stabbed him three times with an iron knife, injuring his thigh and knee.

The injured groom was taken to RIMS Hospital in Amravati, where doctors said he had sustained deep wounds but is now in a stable condition.

Argument over DJ performance sparked attack

Preliminary investigations suggest the stabbing was triggered by a minor altercation during a DJ performance, when the groom and the accused allegedly bumped into each other while dancing. The argument that followed reportedly enraged Bakshi, who later returned to carry out the assault.

In the chaos after the attack, the suspect also allegedly tried to stab the groom’s father, Ramji Samudra, before fleeing.

Drone footage becomes key evidence

After the stabbing, as panic spread among guests, the drone operator hired to document the wedding continued recording, following the attacker as he fled the scene.

Police said the footage clearly shows the accused, wearing an orange hoodie, running out of the venue, mounting a motorbike parked outside and escaping with another man dressed in black. The drone trailed the pair for about two kilometres before losing sight of them.

“The drone operator’s alertness has been extremely helpful to us,” said Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Chauhan, as reported by India Today. “The video will significantly aid in identifying and locating the accused.”

A case has been registered at Badnera Police Station under the supervision of SHO Sandeep Hiwale. Police teams are using the drone footage to trace the suspects and have launched a manhunt. “The accused is absconding, but with the visual evidence we have, his arrest is imminent,” officials said.
