LS Speaker to be elected on June 26

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha secretariat on Thursday stated that the house will elect its new Speaker on June 26, members have been given a deadline until 12 noon on June 25 to submit notices for motions supporting candidates .
"In the present case, notices of motions for the election of the Speaker can be given before 12 noon on Tuesday, June 25," it explained in a Lok Sabha bulletin.
The 18th Lok Sabha is scheduled to convene for its session on June 24, with proceedings expected to conclude on July 3. The first two days of the session will primarily focus on the swearing-in ceremony of newly-elected members.
President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on June 27.
According to the procedures outlined by the secretariat, members can submit notices for motions supporting other members for the office of the Speaker. These notices must be seconded by a third member and accompanied by a statement from the candidate expressing their willingness to serve if elected.
It also highlighted that members cannot propose their own names or second a motion, adhering to parliamentary rules. The motions, once moved and duly seconded, will be put to vote in the order they were received.
If a motion is carried (adopted), the person presiding the proceedings (a pro-tem speaker) will declare the elected member as the Speaker of the House proposed in the motion.
